We supply and lay concrete driveways — including free-draining no-fines permeable driveways — across Knutsford and Cheshire. Two recent no-fines driveway jobs:
This large modern home in Knutsford needed a big new driveway and forecourt, and the customer wanted it permeable. We supplied 30m³ of no-fines concrete — an open-graded mix with no sand or fines in it, so surface water drains straight through rather than running off. That means no need for separate drainage or a soakaway.
It’s a serious volume for a domestic job, so we put a full team on it: the no-fines was mixed fresh on site by our volumetric wagon, barrowed across the forecourt and raked out to level, then compacted with a plate compactor and roller to lock the stone together into a solid, free-draining base.
No-fines is a brilliant SuDS-friendly solution — as a permeable base under resin, gravel or block paving, or as a finished surface in its own right. From the back of the plot right through to the house, the whole forecourt went down in a single pour.

This was a no-fines concrete driveway at a country house in the Knutsford area. No-fines concrete is mixed without the fine sand, so it sets with an open, free-draining structure — ideal for a permeable driveway that lets rainwater soak straight through rather than run off.
The property sat down a long, narrow access lane — but our experienced drivers are used to getting into tight spots, so we got the mixer right up to the house and supplied the no-fines concrete straight to where the team were laying it, edge to edge across the driveway and the side path.

No-fines is an open-graded concrete made with coarse aggregate and cement but no sand or fines. That leaves interconnected voids running through it, so it’s porous and free-draining — ideal for permeable driveways, as a sub-base under resin or block paving, and for SuDS-compliant surfaces.
Yes — surface water drains straight down through the open structure rather than running off, so you usually don’t need separate drainage or a soakaway. That makes it a popular choice for meeting planning and SuDS requirements on new driveways.
It depends on the area and the depth you’re laying. This large Knutsford driveway took 30m³. Send us your measurements and we’ll work out the volume and the right mix when you enquire — and because we mix volumetrically on site, you only pay for what you use.
Often, yes — our experienced drivers regularly get the mixer down narrow lanes and into tight spots, as on the country-house job above. Tell us about your access and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
