How to use the concrete calculator

Pick the shape of your pour, enter the measurements, and the calculator gives the volume of concrete in cubic metres — the unit ready-mix is ordered and priced in. It adds a 10% allowance on top for spillage, uneven sub-base and over-dig, which is the sensible amount to order so you don’t run short mid-pour.

Rough guide to thickness

Shed bases, paths and domestic slabs are usually around 100mm; driveways and areas taking vehicles around 150mm; strip footings commonly 300mm+ deep. Your groundworks or engineer’s detail sets the final figure — if you’re unsure, tell us the job and we’ll advise on the mix and depth.

How much concrete do I need for a shed base?

Use the Slab / Base mode and pick a shed-base preset, or enter your own size. A typical 3.0×2.4m shed base at 100mm is around 0.8 m³ including the 10% allowance. We supply and can lay shed bases across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Why add 10% extra?

Because real pours aren’t perfect — sub-bases are uneven, formwork bulges and some concrete is lost to spillage and over-dig. Ordering about 10% over the exact volume means the pour finishes in one go rather than stopping short. With volumetric delivery you only pay for what you actually use.

What’s the minimum you’ll deliver?

We mix on site and can supply from as little as half a cubic metre, so small jobs are no problem — and there’s no wasted part-load because it’s mixed to order.

What grade of concrete should I order?

It depends on the job — see our concrete grades guide, or tell us what you’re pouring and we’ll recommend the right mix.

Volumes are calculated from your dimensions plus a 10% allowance; tonnage is approximate (concrete ~2.4 tonnes/m³). A guide only — confirm quantities and mix for your job.
