Concrete for a Piled Raft Foundation in Middlewich

Middlewich, Cheshire

This new-build site in Middlewich sits on poor ground — conditions that aren’t strong enough to build on directly — so the foundations had to be piled. We supplied the concrete to fill the piles, mixed fresh to spec on site by our volumetric wagon and barrowed into place around the steel starter bars at each pile head.

With the piles cast, the builder forms a ring beam around them. We then return to pour the ring beam and the base together — tying everything into a single reinforced raft that the new building sits on. It’s a textbook solution for difficult ground, and exactly the kind of job our on-site mixing is built for.

We also cast concrete cube test samples on site for the customer. These are sent to an independent UKAS-style testing lab to be crushed and certified, proving the delivered concrete meets the specified strength — peace of mind on a structural job like this.

Piled foundations & concrete testing — FAQs

What is a piled raft foundation?

When the ground is too soft or unstable to build on directly, piles are sunk to carry the load down to firmer ground. A ring beam is formed around the pile heads, then a reinforced concrete base is poured to tie it all together — creating a single “raft” that spreads the building’s weight evenly across the piles. It’s a common solution for poor ground on new-build sites.

Can you supply concrete for piled foundations?

Yes — we supply concrete for piles, ring beams, rafts, footings and slabs across Cheshire and Greater Manchester. Because our wagons mix volumetrically on site, you get fresh concrete batched to the exact spec the job calls for, with no part-loads going to waste.

What is concrete cube testing?

Cube tests prove the concrete meets its specified strength. Sample cubes are cast on site from the delivered mix, cured, then crushed by an independent testing lab at set intervals. On structural jobs like piled foundations it gives the customer and their engineer documented proof the concrete is up to spec.

Do you cover Middlewich?
