We’re especially proud of this one. The concrete was for the area where the East Lancashire Railway service and maintain their trains — and we’ve now been working at this maintenance depot for over six years. We arrived on site, barrowed the concrete in for the base and helped to lay it, and the team tamped it off to give a nice flat surface to work from.
This is the main indoor service area where they maintain all the vintage trains — we laid and floated the concrete to a smooth finish, a new concrete hardstanding for the volunteer train enthusiasts who keep this charitable railway running. Famous locomotives have run through this very depot, from Thomas the Tank Engine to the Flying Scotsman.

A hardstanding is a durable concrete surface to work on or to stand heavy plant and vehicles — here, a flat, smooth slab for the team to service and maintain the trains from.
Yes — on this job we barrowed the concrete in, helped lay it, and the team tamped and floated it to a smooth, flat finish. We muck in to get the job done.
